    What it is

    It takes taxpayer dollars from the public schools that serve every child and hands them to private schools with no accountability — schools that can reject any student who doesn't fit their business model. And it nationalizes a policy that has blown up budgets in state after state.

    Governors decide whether their states participate. Gov. Hochul has indicated she intends to opt New York in. We need to convince her to say no.

    When a student leaves with a taxpayer-funded voucher for a private or religious school, state aid leaves with them. But your local school district still heats the same buildings, runs the same buses and still has to serve 90% of our state's students. Someone covers that gap: you.
